The Gates Foundation and other anti-Malaria groups have HALVED the annual death-toll from Malaria since 2000. These groups are currently saving about 400,000 people a year and climbing.
Yep. It’s a hit piece just to be a hit piece. The Gates Foundation has been investing a _lot_ of money into things that have the potential to improve quality of life for a lot of people. Drinking water, electric power, all sorts of things.
Most of that article is the author’s interpretation of Eilish’s image. The only quotes from Eilish herself:
It seems like she’s saying it sucks to be reduced to a sexual commodity because of her appearance. Can you honestly not see the difference between wanting to look sexy and not wanting to be regarded as a sex object?

Ahh, yes the victim blaming is strong in your argument.
Except she never said that. Her words were “Don’t make me not a role model because you’re turned on by me.” She’s not chastising fans for being turned on by her, she’s saying that she doesn’t want to be treated as a bad person because people are turned on by her; in other words, it’s fine to find her hot, just don’t…
There is an old saying my mom used to tell me.
“If you have nothing nice to say about someone, than you should say nothing at all.”
In other words, she can dress however the fuck she wants, and if you other others don’t like it. Just shut the fuck up, it’s that simple.
That’s kind of my point though. Based on my (admittedly non-exhaustive) knowledge about her as an artist and her public persona I would be surprised if she agreed to a Vogue photoshoot without the goal being at least a bit of subversion of the norm. Not so far as “Fuck being pretty” but just “What makes me feel…
“It’s funny when people feel the need to make sure everyone knows they don’t like something.”
Billie was writing incredibly witty and fun lyrics as a young teenager and she’s definitely not a shitty person like Lana, haha. Just because you don’t care for someone’s style of singing doesn’t render them talentless. That’s just silly.
Not trying to pile on, but I think the point of her doing this was for it to be about what SHE likes and wants. Like, I can see not making it perfect or maximizing aesthetic coherence being a deliberate choice.
I dare you to listen to Billie sing acapella and then Rihanna without autotune and tell us who you think is better. Perfectly fine not to like her music, but Billie is wildly talented.
100%. Can’t imagine B.E. wanted to look like a “pin-up,” given all the misogyny that accompanies it.
Oh please. The dark eyebrows are my favorite thing about this look. Billie Eilish is cool specifically because she doesn’t style the way a beauty/glamour magazine would.
If we’ve learned anything, America is a nation that respects young and attractive women, and have a profound understanding of boundaries and appropriate behavior. I’m sure it will all work out splendidly, and the focus will remain on her work, and not her appearance.
He’s trying too!
I don’t know the details of their life and didn’t watch their show, but I’m guessing his wife is indoctrinated to think this is somehow her fault.
He’s the wrong kind of Christian for that priesthood. The Duggars are Independent Baptists, and they’re not as good at hiding their kiddy fiddlers as the Catholics. The lack the big, international organization with schools and parishes all over the world. They might be able to hide him in an overseas mission for a…
