I’d rather keep Jodie and ditch everyone working behind the camera instead. There are just so many mistakes, poor choices, clearly rushed filming

Granted, my parents never bragged about letting me go hungry because my motor skills weren’t up to par, but the general rule in my house was always if you didn’t like what was being served at mealtime, you simply did not eat.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Part of what makes the JKR thing so heartbreaking is the legitimate good she’s done in the world. The legitimately important activism she has done and causes she has supported. All the money she’s donated to good causes. At one point she had given away so much money she came

I’d rather keep Jodie and ditch everyone working behind the camera instead. There are just so many mistakes, poor choices, clearly rushed filming, and I’m starting to think that they sometimes just let the actors make up their blocking instead of directing them.

Good. She’s been a remarkably successful Speaker. She’s not perfect, but the real problem has always been the Senate, considering the hundreds of bills she has gotten passed that died there. With a razor thin majority in the House her talents at keeping the Democrats united will be needed more than ever, especially if

I was told this would be a video of her being crushed by a boulder. This isn’t even a distant second. BE BEST AV CLUB!

I don’t think the change has anything to do with “back in my day...” vs “too many participation trophies.” It’s simply in the 80s if you wanted a game to take weeks to beat, you had to make it hard until you learned the patterns of the game. Some things at the end (Mike Tyson) might be nearly impossible for most

Um, no. Mega Man and Contra actually had good level design and getting through it gave you a sense of accomplishment.

I’ve thought for awhile now that it’s a little weird that Karens have really blown up over the past year or two. As someone who has worked both foodservice and retail back in the day, there are just as many, if not more Chads in my experience (or whatever the entitled white male equivalent of Karen is called). Chads

My family and husband want to know why I’m such a raging bitch when I visit my parents.

What does “nothing more than a white feminist” mean? You phrase it as a pejorative, but it seems like a perfectly honorable thing to me. She’s also funny.

I sometimes feel that the narrative (like so many things in American culture) is too black and white. Either you have no job and live an entirely free lifestyle, or you’re stuck in a mindless, soul-crushing, pointless corporate job. There are a lot of options between those two extremes.

I’ll be that asshole: a lot of the work you described and workers you interviewed seem to be too many degrees of separation from the essential products.

then while watching it felt it was some Bagger Vance magical negro teaches white person to enjoy life nonsense and left ultimately disappointed.

I think the problem is that Soul is a kids movie for middle aged people. The people serving the hot takes are at least ten years too young to appreciate the message.

For me, I was also discouraged by the way it seemed like they were setting up 22 as having a passion for teaching and being a teacher, but then just sorta dropped the ball at the end in a ham-fisted rush to end the movie

Admittedly, I’m not black, but it felt more like Joe’s film than 22's to me, in the same way Toy Story felt more like Woody’s film than Buzz’s.

But Soul frames these moments as belonging to 22 in a way that detracts from the movie’s message because they imply that Joe himself was never properly comfortable in them prior to his adventure.

Counter point: The Kardashian Klan.

I hear what you’re saying, but it’s not like white human protagonists get a lot of screen time in Pixar, either. We have cars, fish, robots, toys (white toys, granted). Inside Out was a human protagonist, but iirc most of that movie was spent inside her head, right?
