Exactly. When I actually looked up the states for people of color getting nominated/winning acting Oscars, it is seriously depressing:

Nope, read it more closely. The court held that vaccination could be required to attend public school - which is exactly what I referred to above. Requiring vaccination for access to public schools, daycares, etc. is fine. I support that 100%. What I don't think I can get behind is vaccination as a matter of fact,…
The Oscars are just a mess. They reward stereotypes of people of color (African Americans especially). They reward disability porn (the frontrunners this year for both best acting nods played disabled/sick people in the roles, so the message is - if you want an Oscar, play disabled). They reward conventionally…
My favorite Daria and Jane moment was the last episode - Boxing Daria. When Daria is inside the diner and Jane comes in and she just hugs her. That was really everything. That was Daria finally having a minor breakthrough about herself and then realizing Jane was the person she trusted most. Wonderful.
I totally agree. I wish more doctors were open to addressing concerns. I get that there are some parents who are just not going to vaccinate, and they're lost causes and I don't blame doctors for not dealing with them. But when you have parents who want to vaccinate but who have some particular concerns or issues, I…
The problem is that there's no "research" period on what happens to people with genetic dispositions to auto-immune illnesses get vaccinated. And honestly - I'm not okay with the standard of "a lack of evidence of harm is okay" when it's my child.
Exactly. That is why now many hospitals hold vaccination clinics among the Amish to offer them the shots. And the vast majority of them take them. There are a few pockets of very old world Amish whose policy of "disengagement" from the modern world include vaccine refusal, but they are very rare. As a group, they are…
Isn't that an issue of parsing words? I know that the research overwhelming rejects the idea that a person can have ideas implanted in their minds by video games, but isn't there other research that indicates that repeated exposure to violent video games that require the player to simulate violence can be used as…
Yeah, that happened to us. I learned pretty quick that most doctors are not immunologists. Those doctors understood where we were coming from and generally supported us delaying some vaccines and showing us which ones we should prioritize.
The terrible thing is that the reporter points out that it happened in Virginia - where a state rep was attacked by his mentally ill son (who then killed himself). The rep, I recall, was really open about trying to get his son into emergency care but there were no beds available. Why are the non-dangerous mentally ill…
This is why mental illness is so fraught now. He is clearly deeply sick and needs some serious intervention - intervention that would probably require at least some term of being held in a secure facility. And that is SO hard to do now. While I totally understand the need to protect the civil and human rights of the…
The Amish are an interesting case. I actually have met several of them in the course of my theological studies and they are a fascinating bunch. They are, largely, not actually hostile to the "English" world - they just choose to remove themselves from it. But they overwhelmingly understand that the world is moving…
I kind of agree. There are people in the world for whom vaccination might not be advisable - or perhaps a delayed or selective approach is best. Those people need to be accommodated. The problem now is that most anti-vaccine people don't fit that description.
That is just epic pwnage. Really.
Okay, I genuinely don't get what he is trying to say.
My sympathies to you, first of all.
That was my point. A woman can do every single thing "right" and can be raped. The nun I met was raped in a convent. Her attacker had entered the convent because he was looking for valuables and just happened to stumble onto her. If that isn't "doing everything right" I don't know what is. That's why "doing it right"…
I was ready to say it was the Chupacabra - probably the one that allegedly attacked Johnny Depp, but alas, no.
The crazy thing is that even when women "stay in their roles" rape still happens. Stay at home moms get raped (often by their spouses, which many conservatives say cannot happen). Traditional "femme" women get raped. Church-going women get raped. NUNS have gotten raped, for crying out loud (and yes, I've met one).
Somebody get Megyn Kelly on this, QUICK. She seems to not be suffering fools lately. Seriously.
