As a Christian (although that in no way makes me an expert on anything), I want to state that I feel it is actually very important that the headline and article mentions the school being a Christian school. No, it isn't an unfair attempt to single out Christians as all being hypocritical but it is pointing out this

Thank you for this article. A friend wrote a 3 part series in our university's newpaper last fall about the experiences of 3 trans students. One of the things that her piece mentioned was the need for individual bathrooms, but she didn't give much of an explanation. A lot of people were asking questions about that,

Yeah, at one point he says

That article was offensive and disgusting. It was pure apologia.

That Daily Beast article was so slut-shamey and victim-blamey that any relevant or important information it might have included is lost on me. I had no opinion before (mostly because I, as a random person who has no insider information, don't really have a right to weigh in and I don't get why everyone thinks they do)

I'm noticing that a lot of commenters use the term "victim." As someone who works with sexual assault survivors, we intentionally use the term "survivor" for many reasons. Here is my favorite explanation by Akhila on her Journeys Towards Justice blog:

I read this a few days ago and found it fairly unconvincing.

While I appreciate hearing the other side of each issue, I don't think this is an unbiased author. And the article quite quickly degenerated into slut-shaming Mia Farrow.

I am also a snob, and I will give side-eye to people who are unemployed, unambitious, or live at home for non-justifiable reasons. I admit all this freely.

LW1: That would be okay (maybe) in the 1800s. Last I checked, it ain't the 1800s. Not for a while. So, I would at least confront the friend and be like, "do the parents know? Like... what happens if she gets pregnant? What do you two even have in common?"

This is literally the only fetus I'd entrust him with... Though to be honest, I still have some reservations.

On behalf of the rest of the UK, I thank you for clearing up how we all feel. I'd be snarkier if I didn't actually agree with you.

Everyone in the UK does not believe this story, we all think that he is making it up because he is a vile woman-abusing twat.

Geisha are not whores. The fact that you think that means that you don't know anything about Japan. Geisha are performers who primarily work in Gion. They dance and serve customers drinks, but they do not have sex in them. You are confusing them for the prostitutes in Yoshiwara, which was in Tokyo. Those women

First of all, your headline is misleading. That's really not what he said at all.

People: commenting on the cost of the belt or the look of the belt is really not important. Stop. It would be the same as if I got arrested after I bought a $300 video card at Fry's just because of my ethnicity. There are plenty of things that we can judge people for spending $300 on if we're dicks.

omg. If I were Ferragamo's PR person, I would send him that belt free of charge. 'Cause we all know Barney's will issue some lame non-apology if that even.
