The best fix for windows vista is probably the most common and most used fix of all time. Don't use vista. Its that simple. But captain obvious aside, disable all startup you don't need with msconfig as well as the no gui boot.

revo uninstaller is portable so no harm done. hijack free you have to install but I recommend revo.
