Biggest problem with Westworld is that the premise feels stuck in the era in which it was conceived. Playing cowboys is a fundamentally male fantasy from a bygone era before film/tv had real special effects.

If you want a good homage to that era JJ Abrams does a much better job with Super 8. A lot of Stranger Things' call outs are superficial. It is mostly a B-movie sci-fi drama with some crappy CGI.
