I don’t have data to support this, but my impression of most hate crime hoaxes is that the person doesn’t feel that the public is noticing all the smaller hate incidents that marginalized people are suffering. They feel that they have to do something to make people realize what’s going on so that it will stop, but

I thought maybe I should come back and add why I have issues with Chuck Hoskin Jr and his statement, with its overtly hostile reaction to the actions of a woman:

It’s a new reason to hate a powerful woman. Don’t go ruining it for everyone with your logic and common sense.~

I gotta disagree about the DNA test release being a mistake. She would have done better to have spoken privately with the three main Cherokee tribes before releasing it....two tribes voiced support, but the coverage of the statement from Cherokee Nation was deafening and could have been avoided if she’d talked to them

This article covers it fairly well. It’s been passed down in people’s family lore for over a century in most cases, and pre-internet, most people never thought to doubt what they were told.

I can’t get on board with the idea that people can’t be allowed to change and grow. How can we fight for causes like Ban the Box when we’re ready to throw the whole man away over a thirty year old photo?

The other two officially recognized Cherokee tribes both supported her during the original debacle. She took the steps to make things right with one remaining tribe that was upset, and their spox issued a positive statement urging the world to move on.

I hate to say it, but there are a few things about this story triggering my hoax alarms too...but I think it’s just how over-the-top and outrageous it is. We used to live in a world where something this outrageous was probably made up, but now we live in one that may *actually* include ski-masked men carrying around

Agreed. The popular messaging about this case feels incredibly deceptive.

And the comment threads are STILL full of stans.  Apparently her grabbing her girlfriend’s arm in an airport once years ago makes *her* the only abuser in the relationship, and means he never did any of things she has so much evidence of (video even!).  Her girlfriend’s statements both at the time and now that she

This is why I felt so betrayed by her statement. She has an unearned aura of expertise on the subject of abuse because she brushes against the topic of child abuse in the books, and because of the rumours that her first husband physically abused her. Added to that, her knowing him in person gives people the impression

So, am I the only one who just Where’s Waldoed these pics looking for even a single person of color?

Isn’t it unprofessional for a production of this size to not have a backup plan already in place?

I think Michelle would be excellent at the job, but she hasn’t served as Senator or as Secretary of State.  Our popular vote winner from the previous election had a fantastic resume.

Those are both true, but this should never have been close enough for those two things to swing it.

Agreed.  I didn’t realize there was still so much of this until we watched it all play out in real time in 2016.  Yes, she still did manage to get more votes, but we should have never seen a race close enough for an electoral college upset with such a fantastically qualified candidate.  It should have been a

The most qualified person in the country isn’t going to run again, because the country showed they don’t deserve her.

Because she spends the entire song telling him all the social consequences she’ll face if she stays and he keeps pressing. Whether she would prefer staying or not, she doesn’t want all of the negatives that she’ll endure if she does. There’s no “cover” sufficient for that time period.

Well, we didn’t cross the finish line first, but we got way closer than we have in forever. 46.1% was his final tally, and it took a bunch of Republicans coming back to the polls to beat us. Turnout was almost as high for the runoff as it was for the full election day.

I’m hoping we make it.  I did what I could.....at the very least, we’ve made them afraid they could lose and that’s saying something down here.
