I think it's just for better multitasking between apps. I wish we got more info regarding this. If existing 3DS games benefit from the extra cores.

The games would have to be programmed to handle all 4 cores effectively. Not sure if MH4U is.

It's the same game, but the N3DS has more VRAM. That could be why. Also slighlty higher FPS.
