I normally feel like "but it's satire" is an overused defense of bad writers, but in this case I'm pretty damn sure that poem is satirizing western foodies Columbusing “exotic food” for cultural capital. It’s not exactly subtle either: “Then respect was a fraction of meager / For those who'd not eaten Uighur" and

Yeah, but ironic racism can still actually be racist - it doesn’t matter what you were going for. Sure, some Chinese folks and many self aware white people might find it funny. But so far, from social media - Chinese people don’t like it. It can come from a genuine place or a non-racist place and still be racist in

I normally enjoy reading Angry Asian Man, but I don't feel like he understood who the butt of the joke of that poem is supposed to be. When I first read that poem I was 95% certain it was mocking the practice of white urbanites/hipster/foodie types Columbusing ethnic cuisines to feel culturally superior. I feel like

Like most sixth graders, the author of this report fails to consider that the author and speaker are not necessarily the same person and that the author might be using the poem to critique the speaker’s perspective.

Trust and communication does not ensure you won’t get played like a gullible moron by a lying shitbag.

The girl with the elbow on her head is her big sister. :) Her look makes sense to me in that context, as I am a little sister too. They are the daughters of the actress Brooke Smith, who addressed this on Twitter.

In all the times I have seen this “I’d vote for a woman, just not THIS woman” argument pop up in the comments, I have never seen anyone use any other woman than Elizabeth Warren. Who I get, because I like her too. But This argument would be a hell of a lot more persuasive if people seemed to be aware that we have more

Elizabeth Warren is a politician I admire. She is not a presidential candidate, and has been very clear that she has no desire to be one. Every time a Bernie supporter is accused of being maybe just the tiniest bit sexist for loathing HRC, they bring up Elizabeth Warren as an example of a woman they would totally vote

My favorite thing is that when she ACTUALLY says stuff, the Bernie people get REAL MAD - she didn’t endorse Sanders a couple weeks ago and they all went fucking batshit.

This article isn’t critical of Sanders, is the point. He admitted in the interview that he doesn’t know if what he’s proposing is legal, he said he’d use Executive fiat to break up the banks (and then almost immediately contradicted himself), he has to admit that he has no idea how he’d carry out one of the central

Lol that’s good because I’m a Bernie supporter. I still like HRC (I have my issues with her but I still think she is extremely qualified) and I’ll be happy if either one of them wins the presidency. We got two great candidates and Republicans got a fascist kumquat and Grandpa Munster.

The point she is trying to make is that you can be pro-life (not believing in abortion) and feminist, not that being anti-choice makes you feminist. There is a huge difference between a personal belief against abortion and wanting abortion to be illegal.

“I respect the opinions and beliefs of every woman,” Clinton said. “The reason why being pro-choice is the right way to go is because it is a choice, and hopefully a choice that is rooted in the thoughtfulness and the care that women bring to this decision. So of course you can be a feminist and be pro-life.”

It’s in extremely poor taste. You should tell your wife that most people don’t find it funny. Most people don’t joke about rape even in private. Anecdotalizing your wife’s humor as a way to validate Banks behavior only makes your wife look as bad as Banks does in this instance.

Yes, she didn’t actually literally want these things to happen to Palin. No, it is not OK to say things like that even if you are “joking” or “venting”.

Well, she happened to call after I posted and while we were talking I decided to tell her. She said she was glad I was honest with her and that it made her feel better to have some information, even if it wasn’t the best news. I think just knowing something made her feel a little less crazy.

Yeah, you should tell her. She needs to know sooner or later, and it won’t get any easier later. At least that’s my take.

It drives me nuts when Sanders’ supporters try to pretend he’s some noble grandfather figure and not someone with a healthy ego who wants to win. There isn’t anything necessarily wrong with it but they condemn Clinton for these things. It’s infuriating.

Oh shut up. Real relationships are messy. Nobody would ever be blindsided by cheating if everyone preemptively dumped their partners at the first inkling of a suspicion, but in real life people have to weigh what they have invested in the relationship with what they may or may not know.

tell her! she’ll blame you more the later it comes out.
