@ChaosEh: I don't. At least I don't on the stuff that really uses up space. I backup the stuff I can't lose (docs, code, photos, mp3s) online. But that's only 50gb—not 8TB.

The raid 5 part was just an example not a requirement. I say drop the idea of raid and redundancy altogether (or at least until price per gb is around $0.02).
