Agreed. The '56 version is all kinds of fucked up, and I love it.

You should definitely check out the original, and with the original ending (the nervous producers added a prologue/epilogue that undercuts its horror and despair. Avoid that version.)

Holy shit, I forgot that I forgot that. That scene just came flooding back to me.

You know, by the way, that he's admitted to being addicted to reading what people say about him on the internet, and sometimes responding anonymously.

Wasn't feeling the Superman bed sketch - apart from throwing Stimpy out of the window, which was lovely. Too heavy on the standard geek jokes, ditto the Indian customer service agent. They can do better.

Who's going to play David Furnish? And will there be sex scenes involved? I need to know these things.

Dogtooth is outstanding. It's rare a movie throws something genuinely surprising at you, and … Let's just say I busted out laughing more than once (in a good way, at how much the movie was catching me off guard. I loved it!)

I dunno, I'm finding this confusing and scary. The thought of being attracted to Elton John in any form has me all disoriented, in a bad way. Yet… Hardy…

In fact my only complaint about the movie (which I otherwise like) is that it never again reaches the total awesomeness of that opening attack.

Not just known in the states: it's probably the bestselling 20th century Russian novel in the states, at least in the last 50 years (after we survived peak Zhivago). Anyone who listens to the Rolling Stones or Franz Ferdinand knows this. Heh.

As bad as this season has been, tonight's two-parter could work as a standalone episode - and the most beautiful hour in the show's history. It looks stunning.

When the Usual Suspects sketch started, I groaned - Really, in 2013? - but the longer it went, and the more ridiculous got… Even before the big twist, I was cracking up.

I find it a little bizarre that Todd’s a Democrat, but whatever

Yeah… Truth be told I think he's one of the least deserving who've won the prize.  I haven't read The Paper Men, but I wasn't that taken by The Inheritors, either.  Lord of the Flies is fantastic, but I don't think it comes close to justifying the prize.

Eh, no.  This is bunk:

Mima Kirigoe, Perfect Blue.

I'm surprised how many commenters have never heard this song.  Probably an age thing: if you were listening to radio in the 90s, this song was fucking ubiquitous.  And it feels like the longest song you've ever heard, because even though it's only 5 (interminable) minutes, it contains about twenty seconds of musical

Millions is actually my favorite movie of his.  I've tried to sell people on it, but… It's not a movie that wins people over by its description, to put it mildly.  Better to just tell people "It's a great Danny Boyle movie!" and hope they don't read anything before watching it.

Sir Christopher Plummer is ready and willing to do porn in Rome, and you went with "greatest piece of direction" as your lede?

*slow clap*
