Which I don’t see as a problem. If a company is planning on planting X amount of cars onto the road, might as well make sure they’re behaving safely. Driving is dangerous enough already.

That is true, but Uber - especially in Austin - is going to get large part of its business from night riders/people who’ve been drinking.

Even pizza delivery dudes have a sign of some sort.. I don’t get the fuss either. It seems to not be about hailing an in-use car, but stating your purpose. Whenever I call an Uber in NYC I look for the signs that the guy rolling down his window and signaling at me is in fact the guy on my phone.

I think we’re ignoring the fact that Uber is not the best employer. Their turnover can be quick which is why adding another step for a disposable driver is a problem.
