Volvo is about a half step behind Suzuki and Mitsubishi in terms of getting the F out of the US market, no surprise that a local dealership would have no idea about a car some kid saw on a website. They're more concerned with blowing out unsold V40s.

But that doesn't exist. Diesels typically carry a pretty steep price penalty over their gas powered counterparts in the US. Higher initial cost, higher fuel costs, higher maintenance costs, etc. You're not coming out ahead.

What are these "diesels that get 25% better mileage" of which you claim? Not anything available in the US in 2014.

Bingo.

There you go, the answer to your hopes and prayers. Run, don't walk to your local Scion dealer.

Seeing as they've offered a diesel in the Euro market for the past two generations, what do you mean "might" come with one?

Seriously, this is less "please the enthusiasts" than "oh, crap, we need something to compete with the stripper 17k Tacomas on every Toyota lot".

Aaaand the excuses come, right on queue.

There's a difference?

And Conquest ran a full ACO-spec LMP2 car at Daytona in January and turned 1:41s.

Who'd have thought that a 115-130k SUV might not be a common sight on US roads?

We don't like mediocre-to-terrible cars?

They've been sped up. Seriously, read some articles once in a while. The DPs are nearly 5 seconds a lap quicker in the tests at Daytona last week than they were at the 24.

Small issue with that logic, I doubt you were driving a car with ~2400 lbs of downforce on it in an HPDE. When you're dealing with cars that primarily rely on mechanical grip vs aero, you certainly have more options for passing in a turn. When you start to deal with high grip downforce cars, that window shrinks

Who are these teams going to Le Mans? ESM (you know, the only team actually running a full time P2 effort in TUSC) didn't go. Dyson has turned down numerous invites, as has Muscle Milk. The only prototype team from the American "Le Mans" Series that actually went to Le Mans, Scott Tucker's level 5, decided they didn't

Suppose you would have preferred the other option, which was for the ALMS to completely die off in a year or two?

Really, you're gonna call the DP the "ugly" one of those 2?

Good call, besides that whole "running an average 1:38 to the P2s 1:41-1:42 in the tests" thing.

Nothing.

What exactly are "normal" circumstances pray tell? The Daytona prototypes were a cost contained class with specific price and performance targets. They were built to said specs, and actually slowed down numerous times from their inception in 2003. Max engine capacities were lowered from 5.5 litres to 5, gearbox
