Right-wing Christians are frequently the most un-Christlike of anybody. There’s more positive healthy useful and actionable modern-day life lessons in a random episode of Mr. Roger’s Neighborhood than there is from a random book of the Bible.

I feel like that was one of the subtle messages that they didn’t make explicit: we all have visions of what the “ideal” and “toxic” versions of ourselves are. But personalities simply aren’t granular and simple as that. Start rearranging and customizing personalities like Lego or RPG stats and things rapidly get...…
That scene in the intro where a butt-faced Morty is caught looking at face-butt porn never fails to make me laugh
All of us here are Kinja tulpas.
I think more people should approach this sort of thing with this kind of attitude. I’m a baseball fan. Sometimes I get to a game late, so I know not to check my MLB app because I know I’ll have the score spoiled. In baseball, everyone just expects that to be the case. But, for some reason, in the realm of televised…
He does keep telling everybody he wouldn’t make a good king. But nobody believes him.
Wouldn’t they almost immediately realize Cersei is reneging on her promise. It’ll hard not to notice an entire freaking army is not traveling North.
If you face Nick Denton’s failed microblogging platform with imperfect courage, it will utterly annihilate your soul, and then automatically log you out.
Finally able to post after someone recommended me...anyway, I was satisfied with how Richard died. He was always written as a nasty little thug, never as anyone intelligent or worthwhile. At first I thought it was a waste to not see him with Audrey, but I didn’t really want to see that (and I don’t think I’m ever…
wats this trump bit you’re doing
Trump knows deep down that if Trump stepped into that machine, there would be nothing left.
Rick figured out that the machine decided on what to remove based on what each person thought was toxic, so Morty lost his insecurities, while Rick, among other things, lost his unnecessary personal attachments, such as his care for Morty. Rick literally explained this during the scene you’re asking about.
He didn’t even really try. He’s like “shit, they got me” and folded up like a Scooby Doo villain trapped in a net.
His explanation felt ~topical.
I think the turning point for that was late in GWB’s administration and the beginnning of Obama’s. Prior to that the most vocal libertarians supported the small (but still existent) government governed by the Non-Aggression Principle. When Obama took office suddenly there was a huge influx of Racists and bigots into…
It’s really weird how many libertarians turn out to be or become full on racists.
There was once a time that AV Club stopped and stared at Disqus as it walked by. The grass is always greener on the other side.
Meaningful art and humor require the ability to relate to other humans. They aren’t really compatible with the “fuck everyone that isn’t me” mindset of extremists. On the right, you get shitty paintings. On the left, you get jam bands.
I think because to be an artist requires a dialectical mind, the ability to see both sides of an idea, and people on the far right only see one side of anything, their own. People on the far left on the other hand, see every side (even to a fault), which can make them extreme in their views but still good artists.
It seems in general the further right one is the tougher it is to create meaningful art or humor. I’ve never quite understood why but there’s definitely a correlation there. Also fuck yeah Square One TV
