I think your right ,depending on the track you can be slowed, they keep it pretty realistic. Gravel,sand,grass and dirt all affect the car differently,there are a few tracks were "off track" is still on tarmac in which case the speed of the car isn't affected but you receive a time penalty. I tend to hug the apexes…
