My favorite line from “A River Runs Through It” is when the father (a Presbyterian) scoffs at his neighbors. “Methodists. Pfft. Methodists are just Baptists who can read.”

Everyone in Washington state would support that.

Fair enough. But yeah, I’m really psyched about catching up on Twin Peaks when I can. Usually what I say is “Mr Robot is the most amazing thing I’ve seen on television...since Twin Peaks.” (Which I saw when it originally aired.)

Is it out on DVD yet? I don’t have Showtime. (Really looking forward to eventually seeing American Gods as well.)

Long-time 538 reader here...and yes, I’m nerdy enough I was reading their liveblog. 538 overall called the race a tossup (though Nate Silver did put his “lean” towards Moore), and had a note in their coverage that the breakeven point for the black vote was around 27%. Once it was clear that the black vote was going to

The office really makes a difference. I’d be much more likely to vote for a Republican for an office like Attorney General or Judge or Secretary of State where they are exercising individual power, rather than a legislator where how they caucus is more important.

When she was brought in to take the computer test and talk to White Rose, it was sitting on the table in the room. She seems to be gathering reminders of that meeting around her (like the “Hang In There” poster and the fish tank and probably some other things I missed).

Because sometimes it isn’t disabling? I didn’t get my diagnosis until I was in my late 40s and I’d already developed a lot of coping strategies and workarounds.

Wow. I have seen exactly zero of these (I mean, the Americans, but I’m several seasons behind), so I feel unable to quibble with any of them.

Not illegals. Republicans will claim it was because of all the felons voting.

It didn’t used to be this bad either. I remember Louisiana electing a Democratic embezzler (Edwin Edwards) because they knew electing the Republican David Duke was a step too far.

There’s a difference in how we experience chronic pain and acute (one-time) pain. Pain tolerance for the two types of pain are unrelated. I could speculate that men tend to deal better with acute pain and women tend to do better with chronic pain, but like you said, I don’t know how that would hold up to further

I suspect your wife has a linguistics background.

The music in Persona 5 was the best video game music soundtrack I’d ever heard...until I played Nier. I’d have been happy with either of them winning, but am overall glad it turned out the way it did. (My true fear was that they would split the vote and something else would win.)

Persona 5 had my favorite OST of all time — until I played Nier. It was an amazing year for video game music.

I was exactly the same way. Heck, after I finished it, I couldn’t enjoy any other video games for about a month, because I was still pining after Nier. *That’s* how I knew it was a truly great game.

As a white transwoman I totally get this. You vote for the party that doesn’t actually give a shit about you, because it’s better than voting for the one that wants you dead, but it sure doesn’t make you feel good when you do.

Alaska would stick with Washington state. A large percentage of Alaska businesses have headquarters in Seattle. It’s a vestige of the time before the internet, when if you needed to transact business with the lower 48, it was much easier to do that from Seattle.

But the deluxe (and the special) don’t include ketchup...

People keep talking about losing the deductions for state income taxes, but that deduction was *also* for state sales taxes, btw. There are people in places like Texas, Washington, and Alaska that don’t have state income taxes that don’t realize they are also going to lose out, but they totally are as well.
