You know, I've been soldering things for five years now, and this has never worked. Not even once. No matter how hot the iron is, how low-temp the solder is, no matter how long I leave them all in contact - never works. The solder never gets hot enough to melt, even when I wind up scorching the piece!

One trick I learned — and I still don't know if it's a good habit or not — is to put a dot of solder on the iron, then touch that dot onto the pin you want to solder. It's to establish a good thermal link between the pin and the iron.
