Another factor is that the UAW and UNIFOR (and CAW before it) have long has a very close relationship working together. There is no similar Auto Workers union in Mexico, and I think we all know how the UAW feels about non-union plants.

The UAW only has members in the United States. Mexican auto workers aren’t members of the UAW. Canadian auto workers are members of the Canadian Auto Workers union.

To be perfectly clear, every single country on the planet was created by colonizers/conquerors. Not one country can lay claim to being run/ruled by its original inhabitants in a single, unbroken chain. The United States(and really all of North and South America) just happen to be a bit more recent than others.
