I get what you mean but I don't get indentured servant vibes from the chorus ladies. At least not Candie. There's something more in her relationship with Malcolm than that as otherwise I don't think he'd be so calm over things like her hitting him and making him bleed.

I probably could too, it's just this one felt a bit off to me. I'm not the fan who thinks short seasons are better because to me that's generally not the case, just this one in particular I finally understood the complaints.

It's absurd but then it's not real life anyway, it's the Lynch hyper-reality. I think if we hadn't seen how lethargic the real Dougie was it would bother me more.

I'm not sure how I feel. I didn't want her to just be a victim, but I also don't want her to just be used by him. I'm hoping either Tammy or someone else is setting her up, or she's manipulating him and will set him up for a fall.

I think part of it is down to what we know and she doesn't. We know Dougie has changed, but he's always been like this to her (as he was always like this to his boss as well) because of a car accident. We know that she didn't have sex with Dougie, but she doesn't know that.

I wish we'd seen more of that news segment. It was such a brilliant little slice of absurdity - I loved that they were "rolling the dice" to see what segment they'd cover next.

I think the stuff with his grandmother may have been more about the Hornes as a whole. I think they should have left the stuff with killing poor Miriam offcamera.

The scenes with Richard and Sylvia were ugly but I could sort of understand why, especially as a reminder of just how toxic and disgusting the Horne family has always been. It was the trailer park stuff that bothered me more because those scenes were done like an afterthought.

I think Diane and Constance are well-drawn characters (although I'm not totally sure where Diane is going). I would agree with you about some of the other new female characters, but I think a lot of the new male and female characters are mostly limited in dimension, partly because of the way the structure of the show

I didn't notice it but I've heard a few people say it.

The mafia stuff has, Mr. Jackpots aside, just felt like another cog in the wheel in the Vegas/Dougie's long goodbye tour arc, but this episode did a lot to interest me in them, thanks mainly to the strange relationship with the mob boss and Candie. Candie's reactions veer from queasy comedy to genuine mania, and you

I think people are definitely right to be upset if something bothers them. There are definitely complaints I can agree with. With Lynch I feel like a lot of these complaints (not yours) end up going off the rails. For instance, many who are unhappy with some parts of this season end up acting like it's an atrocity

I could see him doing that, although for some reason I think he may just go on a long retreat.

He's been criticized over portrayals of women since Blue Velvet. I'd say he's probably had more criticism over this than many directors. I think that he also gets praise because some of his female characters are incredibly complex and some of his works are also very female-centric, but on the revival in particular I'd

Me too. I'm going to be a bit crestfallen if we never get to see Frank Truman's reaction to her in full flow.

Naomi Watts plays so many layers of Janey-E…even in this episode alone, she always got it perfectly with how to play absurdities in an absurd yet natural way, between her lust for her new/old husband, her contentment the next morning, and the extended rant we saw from her on the news broadcast. She's been the MVP of

This was the first episode where I felt that those who said there was no need for 18 episodes were right - at times (mainly the trailer park stuff, minus the lovely song from Carl) it felt like some sort of presentation by someone who hates Lynch's current work. At other times it just felt very, very choppy, and it

Thank you for the review. With all the Game of Thrones stuff tonight (makes me nostalgic for when I actually bothered with that show) and the deaths of Landau and Romero I wasn't sure if we'd get many more reviews tonight.

I think Lucy's mostly there to try to add a bit of the old Twin Peaks vibe contrasting with the new town vibe, and also because Lynch likes that wacky type of humor. It feels like it took a bit to get their groove back with her but she's felt a lot more like the old Lucy (season 1 Lucy - season 2 Lucy I would rather

It was very Clockwork Orange, don't you think? It was a real jolt of ugliness, so much more visceral in tone to what felt like more formulaic Lynchian violence-against-women scenes at the trailer park. I guess if nothing else the woman who plays Sylvia finally got a role to play beyond "glares at Ben."
