I doubt reporting his bullying would have got him the sack. That sounds like an Unfair dismissal case. You can only be sacked for 5 reasons in the UK i doubt that would fall under any of them . It may be that one of the persons bullying may have been this guys superior and thus he found to hard to report to someone.
