Luk Yu will give you a similar feel (without the birds) but the food is slightly better than mediocre. Lin Heung is the old school teahouse I like to go to.

There's still a couple of old school type dim sum places left - Lin Heung and Luk Yu in central, but they're not the bird cage type places. Lin Heung even has a staircase entrance so you can walk down it pretending to be Tequila with two guns a blazing.

On the other hand, don't go out 4 times a week to hostess karaoke venues and come back at 6am smelling like crappy whiskey and cigarettes and having spent the night in the company of hostesses if you want to avoid being stabbed in the crotch.

Go back and watch the online stuff again though. It's aged really really badly. job@job.com ?

They tried to do away with official Cantonese in Guangzhou a couple of years ago (trying to switch Guangzhou radio & television to Mandarin) and man, the resulting chaos had the central authorities back down real quick.

I speak Cantonese close to fluently and when I'm there for work, we still use 30-50% English in meetings. It's just easier to say "marketing" instead of "市場推廣"
