It genuinely gives me an impression of “oh no we’ve alienated the magas by casting a woman in that movie, let’s throw them a bone by making the villains some anti-mexican-wall extremists”. We’ll see how the protect-our-flags-and-borders message goes in the series, but let’s say the worse would be quite in line with my

Where’s tweeterdelete.net ?

For me, Sandman’s issue is also that it stands behind the line of “somewhat physically thinkable” character. It’s a very arbitrary line, but I can more easily suspend disbelief in front of chemical supersoldiers, alien gods and spider hybrids jumping around, firing lasers through their eyes, headbutting locomotives

Hm. Katie Rife’s absence on this will frustrate me. Especially the opportunities for her laughter.

Essentially playing possum, this weekend.

On the other hand, I could start a flamewar with my earlier self, and he wouldn’t be able to argue back.

Yeah, Huppert is always terrifying, whatever the movie. I always find that she acts too well for cinema, it’s unsettling. I have these huge theories about her not acting but downright lying. Or her not being aware that it’s fake, and truly believing it all happens for real. Both hypotheses being equally frightening.

Yeah, the french did quite a few transpositions that worked surprisingly well. One of my favorite movies of all time, “Clean Slate” by Tavernier with Noiret, Huppert, Marielle (and just a spectacular array of top notch actors), transposes Jim Thompson’s “Pop. 1280" to colonial Africa. The effect is fantastic.
