I would not trade my 401k/Roth accounts for a pension. The math depends on your income level/savings rate but at some point given average market returns (~7%) it makes more financial sense to invest/control your own money.

It’s funny that you mention Seattle. The anti-homelessness measure that failed there is another prime example.
