Don’t forget incontinence and hemorrhoids and post partum depression. Oh and the possibility of getting infected milk ducts. But don’t get too stressed about it bc that can slow down your milk flow, which makes you more stressed, all of which helps contribute to post partum depression. Ah those first few weeks are a

Mine consisted of being trapped on the couch watching Food Network for hours at a time because it was the only time he slept. And then would fountain puke all over me. And also trying to figure out ways to cope with the constant feeling of a sunburn that is your stomach healing after a c-section. And using two years’

I dunno, I *get* the outrage. This whole “meternity” thing shows that most people think maternity leave is a perk or a vacation and not a necessary time to heal after EXPELLING A HUMAN BEING FROM YOUR BODY ONE WAY OR ANOTHER! I mean, the fact that maternity leave still isn’t mandatorily(ok i made that word up) paid

Moms who allow themselves to have an identity beside being “MOM” are the best.

I don’t have kids, but every understanding I have of maternity leave involves no sleep, falling behind on everything, dealing with far too many visitors, and not being able to wipe your ass with toilet paper for a while. I don’t envy anything here.

Before this thread gets totally overloaded with people (rightly) saying they would have died without a hospital birth/c-section, I want to say I had a home birth for my second child and it was bliss. BUT first time round I had a very scary birth where the midwife was trying to look after another woman at the same time

Proper training and regulation! Yay! Integration into the regular medical community! Woot!

This is how I picture the SCOTUS men asking questions on contraception:

I’m glad she made sure to point out that the models had safe words and gestures.

One of my relatives had one of those. But the parents wanted to be surprised by the gender too, so they have the doctor write the baby’s gender on a piece of paper and stick it in a sealed envelope. They give the sealed envelope to a bakery, pre-order a cake for the party, tell the bakery to open the envelope and use

Uggh yes. I actually had to tell people, “We’re trying to go gender-neutral because WHAT IF THE NEXT KID IS A BOY?” in order to convince them not to plaster my house in pink shit. Not just, “Hey, maybe we can chill on forcing gender norms upon her from day 1 maybe?”

This makes me actually want to have a kid and not find out the sex in advance, forcing my inlaws to buy green and yellow toys, wood blocks and books and outdoorsy things that any kid could enjoy. I’m sure that’s a dreamworld though, and they’d find some way to make it hell.

I just found out about gender reveal parties this year! My coworkers were discussing them and how you can have cupcakes that have pink or blue inside to “reveal” the gender and I pointed out that pink used to be a masculine color. And then they were discussing how you had to buy completely different toys/clothes for

“Boy will be boys” or in this case “grown ass men will be grown ass men commenting on a child’s body”

I didn’t mind the way she handled the karate thing. And I thought it was awesome how receptive the karate teacher was to the criticism!

Can’t agree there. I was totally on board with her complaining about another child teasing her kid until she cries. One may or may not agree about the pretend guns, but that level of teasing is not teasing anymore; it is flat-out bullying.

That karate anecdote really hit home for me. Karate was my life from ages 10-16, when I finally got my black belt. However, once thrown into class with the other black belts, most of whom were men in their 20s, 30s, and 40s, I quit within six months. Why? Because they made inappropriate and sexist remarks about my

I’m with the librarian about Point #2. You can’t expect a library to get rid of all the children’s books with subtle sexist messages. Even if the library just got rid of all the books with OVERT sexist messages, it wouldn’t carry any European fairy tales. (Except Hansel and Gretel. Gretel’s a badass.) I think the

All the other students there are the children of diplomats and other important political leaders...so I suspect they’re used to keeping quiet.

Good for them. One thing I can say is the kids at Sidwell seem to be pretty cool. You really don’t get a lot coming out about Sasha and Malia. Seems like they are protected there by the staff and other students. Chelsea Clinton went here too and it was the same. $38K a year sheesh...I wonder if they got a sibling
