I lived in Huntsville, Alabama back late 90s. Huntsville was deeply scarred by the Apollo program. Pre-NASA, it was a typical small Alabama town. By 1970, it was a super high tech town full of engineers. When the Apollo program was shutdown, it killed the economy there and it left scars that lasted well over 20 years.
