Ehh..Vader wasn’t a developed character in ANH and he killed Obi Wan. I think this movie was just pretty much setting the stage for Episodes 8 and 9.

The Resistance wouldn’t be able to “know” that Rey was important because the dark side could use their power to gain information about her.
