Whatever the distinction is that you’re trying to make, you’re not making it clearly. What is the difference between “being outraged” about what you call “an atrocity that is indefensible” and “taking sharp political sides” (as opposed to . . . appropriately dull ones?) about “the conflict”? And what is it…
As a Palestinian, thank you. Seriously. The Israeli government isn’t making anyone safer, including Jews — in Israel or anywhere else. And as someone who just, you know, generally hates innocent people being murdered on either side, it’s refreshing to see so many intelligent comments here.
I’m wondering if an exec over at Spygate may be a militant pro-Israel person. Her comment can be seen as reasonable by most people but there is a minority of people who believe Israel not only has the right but the duty to respond to any threat with disproportionate violence back. Some are even proud of it.
From the Spyglass quote, it seems likely that someone up top absolutely could not handle the use of the word “genocide” in describing Israel’s actions. If so, that’s absolutely deranged.
Ah, yes. You need at least a Master’s before you can declare bombing civilians indiscriminately is bad. These filthy casuals should shut their traps about war crimes until they soak in the complexity.
But the ongoing, decades old conflict that has caused their deaths is very complicated
Except, colonialism is bad! It just sounds like you’re trying to “both sides” this. Its not simplistic outrage to understand a people have been badly oppressed and are being bombed with the West’s support. Many of those people children.
Weird. Barrera’s comments aren’t an unusual view. Agree with her specific phrasing or not, it’s coming from a place of caring about people experiencing unimaginable suffering. Would imagine there’s studio politics at work. It’s a weird moment. Reminds me a lot of the post-9/11 era. “You’re with us or you’re against…
how complicated are dead children
There is no complexity to what is going on, it is not complicated. The only people trying t push the “it is complicated” argument are doing so out of good faith and as aa way to deflect away from what is going on.
Fuck off with that shit. The simple truth is that CIVILIANS are being massacred and it is plain as daylight, the entire history of the conflict does not change that simple truth and that is what people are reacting to.
Or, alternately, they aren’t buying into excuses like “well, Hamas is making us kill all those civilians,” which is an absolute nonsense argument.
Agreed. The Los Angeles Times headline for the story was “Melissa Barrera dropped from ‘Scream VII’ after pro-Palestinian posts,” which is more accurate. Even more accurate would just be that she was fired for telling the truth.
nothing she said quoted here is wrong or antisemitic. It’s just the plain old obvious that everybody with eyes can plainly see.
She wasn’t fired “over comments about Israel” as the headline states, and framing it this way makes it seem like she went off and said something crazy anti-Semitic.
They're called Game Mill?? 10/10 product as described.
And Red Red Wine is shit too.
All your comment does is tell me which genre/era of music you prefer. And that you like when people from that genre/era do songs in their style.
What about the Weezer cover of Toto’s “Africa?” The original was not the best track on the album, but was catchy, more for Toto’s superb studio musician skills and production than the absurd lyrics. The remake was generic to the point of offensiveness.
