Look, I adore Richard Linklater’s films, but man do I tire of these arguments.  Cinema is always evolving, and the one constant, are those who proclaim cinema dead or dying.  They said as much when talkies came in.  And color.  And widescreen.  And television.  And digital. Cinema evolved, and changed, but that’s what

Though he would know better than most, hasn’t that always been the case? Haven’t fans of art house cinema always been in the minority?

Imagine your boss saying that to you. Seriously, think about being at work and hearing that, especially if it happened in front of co-workers. Now imagine both not respecting your boss AND also being aware that they could have you fired on a whim, meaning that even reacting negatively to being mocked could mean losing

Honestly, it’s not even that deep.  The easiest way to relieve the pressure in that kind of work environment is to hire more people.  But that cuts into profits, so instead we pretend that running that business is not for the weak, which is detrimental to everyone involved.

Perhaps a milquetoast late-night show should not even BE a high-stress environment

Gaming culture’s fascinating. It’s like the perfect consumer culture, because the guys within it don’t believe they’re consumers, and few can make their own cultural capital so they have to buy things that - they think - will make it cool. They need to pre-order every Ultra-Special Limited Edition With Collectible

Of course, they should listen to the likes of you, who treat things that aren’t sufficiently different for your tastes as being the result of the developers and artists and such being “lazy as hell.”

I love it when we get to the “I wish people would play video games the RIGHT way, like I do!” argument.

Gamers complain when the games are different (WHY CANT BIOWARE JUST MAKE ANOTHER DRAGON AGE ORIGINS WITH THE SAME TACTICAL COMBAT? WHY ASSASSINS CREED AN RPG NOW AND WHY AM I NOT IN THE MIDDLE EAST WITH A HOOD AND ROBES) and gamers complain when they’re the same (WHY DOES UBISOFT KEEP MAKING THE SAME ASSASSINS CREED

I’ve never played FromSoftware games, but just from watching gameplay videos “wildly different” is not a phrase I’d use to describe Bloodborne, Sekiro, and Elden Ring. They look pretty same-y to me.

Or, and this might come as a shock, this is exactly the product Bethesda intended to create. That you don’t like it doesn’t change that.

He’s also skirting the fact that this is a choice of play he’s made himself. You can CHOOSE to stop at the star systems along the way to your quest destination (and thereby get totally distracted by any number of random things along the way) or B-line straight to it. It’s a choice and he’s kind of complaining about a

Yay someone validated your preconceived notions

It goes back way further than 25 years. Sheer fabric was a huge part of the Mod look of the 60s and pretty much defined Cher’s public persona ever since.

until they make it personal by walking up to me and giving me no option but to see it

It’s weird comparing women’s nipples to men’s ball sacks when men also have nipples. Though at least with your comparison you don’t need to explain just how they’re different in a way that doesn’t involved centuries of puritanical religion.

That’s a lot of words to put towards expressing one’s purported apathy.

On the one hand, good for you for avoiding the parts of the internet where men talk shit about women for every tiny little ‘mistake’ they make.

I was prepared to roll my eyes at this, but at the end of the day she has a point. In the year of our Lord two thousand and twenty three we should not still be getting so concerned about women’s nipples showing.
