I suppose. But there’s generally a verbal/textual component to any boycott. Some individual or organization asks people to boycott X thing for Y reason and makes that known publicly. Then both the person or company being boycotted and the general public can track declining sales or participation or whatever to see how

LOL How very sanctimonious of you. When is your timeslot on Fox News so I can be sure not to tune in?

Agreed.

You may think you’re helping, but most likely your causing problems for the people that actually work there.

Well that’s just stupid.

Can anyone who’s paying Elon Musk money to use Twitter truly be said to be an adult?

Kids are stupid. Hence watching Mr. Beast videos to begin with. I can’t honestly say I spent my childhood any better.

It’s so harmless. He’s not even asking them to go out of their way to find and fix messed up displays. He’s just asking them to tidy up if they happen to come across one. It’s a bit silly and presumptuous, but who cares? At worst, he’s making life easier for the employees of the stores and giving some kids a feeling

Out of genuine curiosity, though: can you give an example of censorship you consider to be within the bounds of a well-functioning society?

That’s a false choice. People can protest speakers whose viewpoints are out of bounds with the goal of getting their speaking engagement canceled and spread their own alternate viewpoints to those who are willing to listen.

What does a good protest look like to me? You answered it yourself: it is to convince other people to come to your own view of the world.

Sadly, his comments on this subject are fairly reasonable compared to a lot of the shit being thrown at the wall on here.

The word “refute” has two meanings. The first is to prove someone wrong by argument and evidence. The second is to deny the truth or accuracy of the statement. I’m using the word “refute” in the second sense. It doesn’t prove that it’s wrong, but it makes the statement that it’s wrong.

Probably not. Which is why my last response included additional words after that sentence you’re replying to. Trump is unique in a lot of ways.

My response to this is simple: different people have wildly differing views on what is “bad and dangerous” and these are liable to change based on who is in power.

Giving someone a stage and microphone is not an endorsement.

That is completely untrue.

It absolutely does. When people, in masse, say “these statements are so far out of bounds that I’m unwilling to support any company or organization that airs them,” that’s absolutely a refutation. It’s the basis of boycotting, which is a pretty fundamental part of navigating life in a capitalistic society and trying

Treating “censorship” as a dirty word is ignorant. There are all kinds of censorship that are perfectly within the bounds of a well-functioning society. Honestly, I don’t care what you call it. I don’t want my money paying for an unrepentant bigot’s megaphone. If you have a problem with that, then you can lead a

If someone is part of a marginalized group and a speaker is spreading bigotry against that group, refusing to not see that person does fuck all to keep them safe. It’s not infantilizing anyone to declare that the “marketplace of ideas” doesn’t need to give space to bigots to spread more bigotry.
