That’s bullshit. There has been a lot of credible reporting and investigations from private organizations that confirm Castro’s decades of human rights violations. Blaming the US for every bad thing that ever happened in that country is exactly the kind of childish G.I. Joe red laser/blue laser nonsense that the right

My point is that Hamas shouldn’t get a pass for killing civilians simply because Israel is oppressive and responds disproportionately. Is that so hard to understand?

I voted for her and I wouldn’t say I hate her, but I’m decidedly not a fan.

Yes, I do think Israel shoulders more of the blame for the conflict for numerous reasons. No, I don’t think Hamas would stop killing Jewish civilians if Israel stopped their expansion. It’s possible, but I don’t find it very likely given their rhetoric.

Infinitely? Jailing, beating, and killing political dissidents and turning a blind eye to the abuse of LGBTQ Cubans is “infinitely” less bad than a failed invasion and an embargo? Downplaying the oppressive dictator of a nation of 11 million to that point that you call him a pickpocket is laughably biased.

What? Where are these straw men you’re attacking even coming from? What about me saying that Cuba isn’t perfect makes you think that I’m saying that the US is? This is exactly what I’m talking about. I can condemn the US for invasions and sanctions and condemn Cuba for their numerous human rights violations. Saying

When did I say that the exact middle was the correct position? You can hold both sides accountable for their civilian casualties and other crimes in proportion to their scale.

You mean like the People’s Choice Awards that has been a thing since the mid-1970s? Or gold and platinum records, which have been given out to artist who meet certain sales thresholds since the 1930s?

Yeah. I had a whole justification written up about how each side was wrong in specific ways and then thought better of it. I’ll leave it to people who are more educated on the issue than I am.

Exactly. No nuance allowed.

That’s what frustrates me. Both sides of the debate want to turn the conflict into good guys vs. bad guys and act like their side is flawless.

A little late for that, isn’t it?

The Billboard Awards are the stupidest concept for an awards show. They just give awards to whoever had the most sales.

I can’t like your comment because Kinja is being stupid, but thanks. I have a minor quibble still, but I’ll let it go. Glad we could come to a reasonable “agree to disagree” point. Enjoy the rest of your Wednesday.

Also, it’s a stereotype for a reason. I can’t say whether it’s a thing or not outside of the region where I grew up, but waitresses calling every customer “hon” or “sweetie” or “baby” is extremely common in my armpit of the South. It can definitely be read as condescending and I’ve never personally been a fan,

You know what? I will admit that you are right on one thing. While I think that you are just as much to blame for that as I am, this conversation has gotten unnecessarily rude and hateful. There’s no point in arguing over who is more stupid or the bigger asshole. I apologize for my part in escalating things. I

You mean other people also care more about grammar rules and maintaining the status quo than being inclusive and listening to underrepresented groups like trans people? Shocker. You’re the one who thinks you’re the arbiter of what words other people can and can’t use. You’re the one who thinks you own the Spanish

So all you’ve got is appeals to tradition and appeals to consensus. Not a very good argument. I’m going to let journalists do whatever they feel is appropriate, but you do you.

If that’s what you “came here to explain,” you’ve done a shitty job at it. All you’ve done is tell everyone repeatedly how people using inclusive language makes you feel sad inside and project that onto every other Spanish-speaker on the planet, including the person using the term in this very article. What you can’t
