Oh man... I hate so many classic films. I need to give Alphaville another go. I tried to watch it and noped out after like five minutes. I would say Godard is pretty wanky in general, but Breathless is a lot of fun and was written by Truffaut. That one and Pierrot le Fou are both very similar to Truffaut’s Shoot the…
Don’t forget Godard. I watched Pierrot le Fou for the first time the other day. Great stuff.
Paul Thomas Anderson, no question. I like Wes Anderson a lot, but PTA is one of the all-time greats.
Oddly, even though I’d consider myself a Wes Anderson fan, it wasn’t my favorite. I had issues with the tone shifts. It definitely looks gorgeous though.
Maybe someday.
I strongly disagree. Have you seen Ed Wood?
Good call. I figured I was forgetting someone.
Nah... The Grand Budapest Hotel was his highest grossing film. His films may be somewhat niche still, but they’re increasingly more mainstream.
Ouch. Shots fired.
Not a Big Fish fan? It’s schmaltzy, but I like it a lot.
I like Mars Attacks! a lot. It’s top-five for me. But yeah, people didn’t totally know what to think of it at the time. I like Big Fish a lot too, but I very much disliked Big Eyes.
That may be true in terms of their more ardent fans. But I’m talking more about the total number of people who see their films. Burton, far from his creative peek, is still making $300 million movies. Wes Anderson’s highest grossing film, The Grand Budapest Hotel, topped out at $172.9 million. Which is still a lot.…
People definitely leave out the half part. And the part before that where she acknowledges that it’s a generalization. Trump supporters responded by saying “She thinks we’re all deplorable!” when she was really talking about people like Richard Spencer, not the average Trump voter.
Still holds up.
Her goal wasn’t to reach the deplorable ones, but rather than other half by saying that they shouldn’t be associated with the open racists who love Trump. Not that it worked.
Wes Anderson is one of my favorite directors, but I think we forget how good Burton was in the first half of his career.
That’s a mediocre movie, mom.
Because he looks like Robert Smith?
It has. But Burton was really great when he was great.
