None of the laser strikes are without incident. The laser strike its self is THE incident. Just because the plane landed safely doesn’t mean “it’s all good, just pilots over reacting”.

used millions of dollars of tax payer equipment? sure the value of all assets involved were probably in the millions, but you wouldn’t say they cop that pulled you over in a Dodge Charger used $50,000 of police equipment paid for by taxpayer dollars to give you a ticket.

Having pilots wear red-tinted eyewear to protect against random people shining lasers in their faces when flying is absolutely the wrong answer to this problem. And just look in the video, eye damage is NOT the concern with people doing this, and I’m pretty sure special eye-wear would have zero effect at eliminating…

Considering that a laser can effectively blind a pilot, thus potentially bringing down his/her very large aircraft, then yeah, I’d say the response is absolutely warranted.

They’ll arrest you for pointing a laser at an aircraft for the same reason they’ll arrest you for doing 140 mph down the highway. It’s not that something bad did happen, it’s that you created the potential for something bad to happen.
