That seems to be in the range that an elite, Olympic-level female athlete could win by. So it's attainable for other women. It's been attained by other women. What's the problem here?

Once again, Vonnegut is relevant. From his awesome early short story collection.
Agreed. And why hasn’t anyone complained about Michael Phelps, who has a body type that is extremely, extremely rare and happens to be the ideal body type for a human swimmer? His body also takes half the time of most humans to recover from exertion, so he can train more and race back to back without the same level of…
I read this article from the NY Times on this topic. It mentions an editorial from Scientific American that pointed out that atypically high levels of testosterone in men aren’t considered an issue, as long as they are naturally occurring. If it is ok for a male athlete to have unusually high levels, why is the same…
I bet I could beat the pants off both of them in a shrimp eating contest! Sometimes I wish nature had given me advantages in other areas, but you take what you can get.
Agreed. Ugh, this leaves a horrible taste in my mouth. This woman’s argument is all about how they all feel together, they know how they all feel, feel feel feel all the fucking feels. Yet, not once does this trick even bother to think about how Semenya feels. That her very fucking existence is being challenged,…
Yeah, no. Nature gives certain people advantages in certain tasks. I could have trained from birth and I’d still never be as fast as Sharp, let alone Semenya. Sometimes life is unfair. I feel for Sharp, and for all athletes who get to that level and realize they still can’t be the best, but that’s how competition…
Honestly, I'd have way less issue with her lodging a protest of it was done before the race. But girl, you lost, you came 6th, and you can't blame that on anybody else but yourself. You let yourself get psyched out by seeing a stronger competitor.
Taking Caster out doesn’t get you a medal, but thanks for being a sore loser, Lynz.
That contradicts the statements from the other swimmers, but if true, it certainly changes the dynamic and doesn’t constitute extortion. In any case, Lochte just used the word “tantics” on television, which may be a more egregious offense than minor vandalism or public urination.
The security guys were going to call the cops. The swimmers were begging to pay damages on the spot to avoid popo involvement, hence a compromise was struck. There was no extortion.
Yes! That's exactly where I got the idea!
Someone’s been watching John Oliver. :)
Isn’t the entire paragraph the punchline?
Remember when the deadspin comments where full of “why would anyone made up a story like that?” And “that’s the corrupt police covering up for their dirty cops” and “that’s just third world country bs”? Good times!!
I feel bad for his teammates, Bryson, Dillon, and Brody. I mean, they seem so insignificant in these stories. So much so that I just made up all three of those names and you didn’t even notice.
Yes, I’m sure it is similar to many other things, such as alcohol consumption. For a large majority, there is no issue or problem with consuming it on a regular basis. For others, it can be devastating and interrupt all aspects of their lives. I think we should be able to have a nuanced conversation about such issues…
I don't think any of us can say that porn didn't make this situation worse. If that is her truth I am not here to take it from her.
I don’t think I can be convinced that porn is healthy for men. Ladies, whose boyfriends/husbands are pornheads, tell me honestly and not the “sex positive, politically correct, men pleasing” version, do your partners porn habits mean great/improved sex with better, more frequent orgasms for you personally?
