exactly. And it’s not just true of health care. These tea partiers and freedom caucus people have no care if the positions they take are workable or have any real world implications. They just want bumpersticker solutions to incredibly complex issues that are often interrelated. And nearly half the country just…
I waited tables with Paul Ryan in DC after college. His talk about ending entitlements at a kegger... that was essentially what I experienced. It made no more sense then than it does now.
I think the key thing is — can Republican leadership even state what their current goal of government’s role in health care is.
For Democrats going into the 2008 election, they made two generic promises/goals.
1. Do not touch employer-provided health insurance
2. Get health insurance for Americans who did not currently…
The thing all of these morons forget to mention is *no one stays healthy forever*. As a young and healthy person, yes, you are paying for the elderly and sick, because when you are elderly and/or sick, you want someone *else* to also be paying into this system. It would never work if only the sick and old pay into it.
For what its worth the bill that their think tanks worked on for years was cleaned up and humanized by democratic ideas and was in fact passed by congress and signed by the president. Its called Obamacare.
Never forget that Paul Ryan and his family survived for many years on Social Security benefits after his father unexpectedly passed away.
Ryan: Car insurance: People who are driving without accidents are paying premiums for people who make money by totaling their cars. That’s wrong!
allow for Americans to invest 50% of their S.S. benefits into the market without
Precisely! Paul Ryan is a “wonk” in the sense that most undergraduate students are “wonks.” (I include the 18-22 year old version of myself in this group). They have ideologies on how the world should work but never get into actually playing out how those ideologies may be functionally enacted and the consequences of…
“And it ain’t exactly like Jared is some business phenom either.”
People don’t realize that this is the opposite of how a gov’t is supposed to run. I don’t mean that it shouldn’t be responsible about spending, but it also has to be a lot of things to a lot of people.
Since Jared’s running it, the mentality will mainly consisting of getting money and jobs from from fathers and fathers in laws.
This. I don’t care where he went to school or what he’s done so far. It’s ALL the result of a ridiculous amount of privilege, and he’s neither an expert at anything nor is he a “senior” anything. Can they stop pretending like he’s some academic or something? He’s a rich kid who married another rich kid whose daddy…
I’m guessing this team will be doing big, unbelievable things, just like Trump’s team in Hawaii did. Or still is. I’m not really sure he ever recalled them.
Don, can I call you “Don”? When we hired you, we just hired you, get it? Stop bringing your kids to work every day.
Hey, Jared, here’s an idea: tell your worthless father (edit: -in-law) to stop flying to golf courses and to Florida every weekend. That alone would save the government millions of dollars. Plus maybe he’ll actually do something to earn the $1 salary he’s taking.
Came here to say just that — of course you can be “under budget” if you shaft contractors out of at least a quarter of what you owe them.
Jesus H. Fucking Christ. When will we learn that business ideals (i.e. you vs. me) will never work in human endeavors? This is a gross and tawdry and hurtful experiment.
“I promised the American people I would produce results, and apply my ‘ahead of schedule, under budget’ mentality to the government.”
