News reports are all over the place, sometimes conflicting. BBC and CNN reporting between 18 and 26 dead, and ongoing hostage situation. Our hearts go out to our friends in Paris. Just terrible.

I really, really, really hope that the attackers are not Muslim. Because the growing far right, “KEEP (MUSLIM) REFUGEES OUT!” French parties movement will have a field day with this.
Um... How... How is he doing that wrong? How do you manage to fail at hoodies?
I hope more than anything ever in my life that she was paid to be there. Not only because that means Trump has to pay people to make him look like he has diverse support but also because she was paid to give zero fucks and read her book. Can she start a book club? Can we pay her to sit and read during all the GOP…
Watching it the fifth time (because yes), I noticed that a bunch of people right behind him aren’t reacting to his speech. Paid plants? Forced to be there by their employers? I’m so curious now...
I was really hoping for Dud. Or Pinocchio.
Second time for some Three Dog Night.
An amazingly similar thing happened to me! I was in High Park (in Toronto) with my mother for a lovely afternoon stroll when we happened upon Jason Isaacs (Lucius Malfoy in the Harry Potter franchise for those not in the know), randomly in the park and for some reason in period garb. My best friend and roommate at the…
Matt Damon is the Boston celeb the rest of us from here are actually proud of (usually, anyway). My husband had an encounter with the other son of Boston that is telling of how different they are. He was scooping ice cream one summer in Savannah, GA when Ben and Jen (G, not Lo) came in. Not sure if it was the ice…
The writing on that one is the BEST. I lost it at fleeing the great Fucks Famine of 2015.
OH GOD. I haven’t even finished reading but that Funky Town story has brought actual tears to my eyes.
I do this every tax season and at least once a year outside of that. One waiter came back to me and my husband almost in tears one day and profusely thanked us. I’m just going to assume he really needed the cash. Also, Kevin Smith just always seems like an awesome dude.
I took my kid out at Christmastime last year to our favorite diner, and left the server a huge tip - more than 100% on a small tab, since it was just me and a kid for lunch. It didn’t feel like much to me, but it obviously did something for the server, because he hugged me. I want to do the $100+ tip on a tiny bill…
When my husband and I got engaged we decided to do this instead of getting big crazy gifts for one another. We have everything we want and need. It feels better to make someone else's day nicer.
Your servers love you for this. This is the exact reason Christmas Day was always my favorite shift.
Ehmergerd, y’all are awesome, I want good things for you and yours, and I wish thousands of cuddles, orgasms, and easy bill paying forever..m
My roommate does something similar every year. No matter how good or bad a year we’ve been having, she goes to a payday or title loan place on Christmas Eve and gives the first person she sees going towards the door $50 or $100 (whatever she can afford), tells them Merry Christmas, and walks away without another word.
I love this story. I’m sure it makes someone else’s Christmas Eve so much better.
Our family tradition at Christmas is to go out Christmas Eve for lunch at a greasy spoon, be polite to the server, and leave a $100 tip in cash. It’s kind of selfish, actually— we all get to feel super altruistic, and we race to get out before the server finds the cash and feels like they need to thank us.
Let’s all make a promise that when/if we become famous, we will all be Kevin Smith Famous.
