This is how we do things, too. Even if you never ask for repayment, loans create tension between lender and debtor. If you can afford to help out, give it as a gift. If they want to repay you, suggest instead that they pay it forward when they get back on their feet. I find that it strengthens friendships to be there

Something even worse is the chance of getting something free, like the surveys that will enter you into a contest for the chance to win a $10 gift card or something equally worthless. Unless you’re going to give me something, I’m not taking your stupid survey (not YOU, but “you” in general).

And remember, you can hose OSX off the Mac and install windows for a useful computer.

They should be mopping

I was just going to say that. I work in a production company rental house, and most of the shooters I know only buy lenses and then rent the actual camera body. That, or they just own lighting fixtures (they never go obsolete).

Couple of points here... "heirloom" generally refers to cultivars of a particular crop that were used in the past. There's a very good reason they're not mass-produced at commercial scale today - there is some trait of the variety that does not lend itself well to one or more aspects of mass production.

If your job is dependent on it: don't skimp.

What's a great way to reduce pesticide intake (and use in general)? Buy GMO. This is in fact one of the main goals and outcomes of GMO: a decreased reliance on fertilizer and pesticides because the crop naturally protects itself.

My favorite quote from more than a hundred years ago applies to most things we spend money on today

Add in a nice second secret..... When you do buy quality, look for used. you pay the cheap price for the quality item.

Great article. I would add shoes to this list. I used to wear $30 flip flops that would last one season. Then I discovered a brand that cost $65. They have lasted me for years upon years. In my experience, cheap shoes fall apart. More expensive quality shoes last longer. Plus something you put on your feet and step on

You can't say for sure that they would have had higher yields (that depends on a lot of specifics) but otherwise you're right: a lot depends on the variety, the growing conditions, how fresh it is, and so on. Buy from small local farms and you'll often be able to get better berries than the ones grown for supermarkets.

That has nothing to do with the strawberries being 'organic' and everything to do with the type of strawberry and its growing conditions. The berries would have tasted exactly the same had they been sprayed with pesticide. The only difference would have been that the berry farm had higher yields per acre.

NEWSFLASH: There is no proof that organic foods are any better for you than their non-organic counterparts. IN actually, non organics have one benefit over organics. They save you money and people won't judge you for being an ignorant assclown.

Is it a debit card? They accept any type of debit card, I believe, but only Amex credit cards.

I wonder if you didn't just hit the nail on the head. Since HFCS is so much cheaper than cane sugar then manufacturers can add more of it to foods than they would cane sugar. More sugar content tends to make people crave more of it so they sell more product. They're making more profit, so they don't care if that

"Too often we label one thing as bad, and assume this means alternatives are better."

The ability to freely move around, especially up on a ladder, is why I like cordless tools. A cordless trim saw is great when you have to make quick cuts in awkward places. I also like being able to change out tools without having to plug and unplug cords. Just swap a battery.

Ian O'Connor says it perfectly in an espn article: "This isn't about whether the Patriots needed to cheat. This is only about whether they did cheat." So stop with the mentioning of the bullshit argument it wouldn't have mattered. That is not the issue.

I've found stud finders (especially cheap ones) to be inconsistent at best and frustrating as hell... and I think there are plenty of times when someone might want to do a quick job without running to the store to get a stud finder if they don't already have one. This is just good-to-know info for someone who might
