Yeah - I know the show is an excellent meditation on depression, but I’m really hoping the creators cut Princess Carolyn a break this season and give her a few breaks given the wringer she went through last season.

Looking forward to a fifth season of Bojack Horseman. The supporting characters have some great material to wade through for this next season.

The moment I hit ‘Enter,’ for this last post, I instantly regretted it, thinking “there’s no way Kim would do this.” But at the same time, I keep thinking back to the early, less ‘heavy’ Kim and Jimmy times, where Kim was totally game to play along with one of Jimmy’s schemes. So, I still think she’s capable of a good

Whatever it was, that was an Emmy-worthy clip - the acting that was done just with her eyes. The lack of dating the letter makes me think that Kim did do a forgery, and part (not all) but part of her reaction was an instant-guilt reaction of what she did, but as the writer also said, incorporated with Jimmy’s reaction

At least with Maddow, yes, I know it’s left-leaning, but she will at least attempt to source stuff.

Impact-wise, this was Generation X’s version of Songs in the Key of Life.

Great points. I will also put Scarlet’s Walk in for contention of “Best Tori Amos album” - it may not get to number 1, but it definitely deserves to be in the running. I sort of see Choirgirl of her version of U2's All That You Can’t Leave Behind. Not in sound, nor in theme, but both albums were coming off of moments

Yeah, that would definitely disqualify Tori Amos. Not too sure if “Spark” charted, but her album definitely hit the Top 10. My own goddamn fault for reading the criteria so quickly.

So much great stuff came out this year. I would also add Tori Amos’ “Spark” (June) and Massive Attack’s “Angel” (July - UK). When I came up with my list of Top 10 albums of the year for my college paper, I had Tori Amos’ From The Choirgirl Hotel as number 1. Thanks to history, I wouldn’t rank it nearly that high

“Pullin’” - From Spirit in the Dark. It’s quintessential Aretha Franklin. Starts off great with an amazing blues-style riff, then it goes into this wonderful gospel “call and response” - then, it ends with one of the greatest mic drops at the end.

I’d be happy to cede the title back to you if dirtside approves. In the meantime, this is about Aretha. Rest in Power, and thank you for moving the societal evolution needle in the United States several feet because of your gifts.

The early ‘90s CBS/ABC animated series are a great time capsule of things. Both had that “rush to market” feel where execs were saying “We need a prime-time animated show” - sort of like how in the early 2000s, we got a few Sopranos-style knock-offs from the networks.

No need. But I am genuinely curious about the choice.

And yet you responded, so thanks for giving this random Internet jagoff your time.

My favorite song of hers - sums up almost everything that made her such an iconic voice - starts with a deep, bluesy, charging piano riff, then it breaks down into this wonderful gospel “call and response” - only to end with one of the greatest mic drops in music.

I would put a caveat with that though - sort of like if someone said their favorite Nirvana song is “Smells Like Teen Spirit” - I’ll give it to them if they can break it down a lengthy, thought-out dissertation about why “Respect” deserves it above anything on Spirit in the Dark, or songs like “Rock Steady” or “The

If there was a ‘Mount Rushmore’ of best popular music singers, Aretha’s face would have to be the first face on the monument.

New stuff I’ve picked up:

Yeah. Especially for a guy who insists on carrying out his made-up title of “security consultant” to a ‘t’ - for someone that cautious - I don’t think he’d risk getting pinched.

And thanks to last night’s Better Call Saul, Netflix has probably ran out of the physical DVD copies of Jaws 3-D.
