I never played the early Thiefs either, but I bought and have been playing them this year. I don't know what you mean by clunky, they play just fine.

I'll probably forget Rapture and Columbia myself, they didn't feel like true horror survival on the Von Braun. They were ok as standalone games in their own way, but man the Von Braun and SS2 really holds a special spot in my gaming past.
To be fair, if that commenter would spell out better reasons, I can understand where they are coming from. They might be a user from the RPG Codex forums or inciting people to respond passionately as many are doing.
I really wish they had dropped the whole 'spiritual successor' thing to System Shock1/2. Bioshock is nothing like those games, mostly a devolved format - IE more emphasis on Gun Shooting, less RPG mechanics (inventory management, skill trees, etc.), and very linear level design.
So this means no System Shock 3, well that sucks... no WAIT, pls put up a Kick Starter for System Shock 3, PLLLLS, I'll give all my money!
