When Battlefield used to be moddable, the mapping tool Dice used allowed triggers for Easter eggs which were present in BF1942, BF2, FH2 (not dice, but pretty much superb quality to be its own game), and BF2142 so you could go into the mapping tool and find out exactly what the trigger was.

Exactly, having a new character can bring something else to the story. The character should know little of what is actually going on, or hints of some other event, but leave well known references like "Weyland Company" as we might guess they are up to no good (you're just the expendable bait, etc.).

In FF7, the player is in control of terrorist characters, even sympathizing with them - because it shows a label isn't always what it seems to be when a government says "terrorist." In fact, most FF games are like that. Whatcha gonna do about that "govt"?
