What is being celebrated is not an advance in female competence but one in gender parity. It really didn’t matter what they did out there, it didn’t even really even matter if they were successful. The message is not “look what women can do for NASA” but “look how many women NASA has that can do it.”

That’s what preemptive self-censorship is for. Brad Pitt starred in a film about Tibet back in the ‘90s - you think that would get greenlit nowadays?
