I know people compare Lady Gaga to Madonna, but I think Rihanna is more like Madonna than any other current pop star. The music is different, but the way she doesn’t give a shit what people think and is seemingly unfiltered (and seems like a blast to hang out with) is the way Madonna was in the 80s and 90s.

I think she is definitely held as an icon on the level with Prince and MJ —she was as big as Prince in the 80s (neither of them was as big as MJ). But in the 90s, she arguably was more successful and had many more hit songs and records. She had huge hits in the ‘00s.
