You know, I don't think it was letting Fitz off the hook. Yes, he loved both women and both 'lives' felt real, but discovering that one woman kidnapped him and rewrote his existence would create enough of a trust issue to never consider being with her again, despite how he felt in the framework.

The Flash got super dark and not in a good, deep, way. Overwrought and unearned angst with no logic. So bad. I think Supergirl is actually fun this season, in the way LoT is fun. Don't expect MacBeth.
