All part of the lovely conservative strategy of "if we don't study it, it's not happening!" See also: climate change.

And here I thought it was Aaron Sorkin…

Game of Thrones became Teeth so gradually that I didn't even notice!

The one group of people I unabashedly trust for their nuanced, intelligent views about rape are Lacrosse players.

And the creators of the show aren't laughably claiming that the Red Wedding scene was really consensual, so it wasn't murder, more like assisted suicide. And Robb was totally asking for it, dressed the way he was and intoxicated!

It really doesn't seem like the same person who lost his hand because he didn't want to see Brienne assaulted.

It saddens me that there are a bunch of Mad Men fans who probably feel the opposite.

I expect someone was fired for that blunder.

I feel so spoiled with what's on TV these days. I mean, I get to have the amazingness that is Mad Men and the amazingness of Adventure Time?

I imagine the whole "Solid South" thing played a role, too. If you already know who's going to win the election, why vote?

Well, technically they were used to reenfranchise whites who otherwise wouldn't be able to vote based on restrictions meant to disenfranchise poor blacks. Because, shockingly, there weren't many African-Americans in 1880s Alabama who had grandfathers who could vote.

Strange, byzantine licensing agreements, I presume.

Well, it's been a challenging mating season for Bird Person…

I'm not alone! I love both, and they both have their share of hits and misses, but I think I prefer S3. S2 is my favorite, though, no doubt about that.

So…now I'm a pro-life nutjob. Great.

If you think my problem with this show is that it presents "a hypothetical alternative to history," I'm not sure you've been reading anything I've been saying. I don't have a problem with alternate historical interpretations, I have a problem with this particular slant which implies that innocent historical personages

I think this particular slant on Tituba is pretty inherently horrifying, and I'm not sure if there's really any reading that improves it. My problem isn't that Tituba is portrayed as practicing voodoo, it's that the only black person on the show is portrayed performing ritualistic backwoods abortions. If that doesn't

I can't disagree more. Art doesn't exist in a vacuum, so why should I pretend that it does? Especially when the work in question challenges me to question my own assumptions/thoughts/feelings about the world around me, as many great and terrible works of art do?

Well, it does posit that Tituba was a secret witch who performed backwoods abortions on people. And seeing as she was a innocent slave girl, that presentation does very much offend me.

As I've stated above, I do think saying the witches of Salem were actually witches is pretty distasteful, even if it's not "horrifyingly offensive." (Though having your only POC perform a "sexy backwoods abortion" sounds pretty horrifyingly offensive.)
