This has pretty much been my contention as well (though headquartering in TX hasn't helped from what I understand).
The point isn't that the standards are acceptable, it's that wanting pictures of women banned from advertising is less craptacular than beating women for showing too much skin. The former is closer to moderate, though neither are near moderate. It's a less than greater than comparison, not a endorsement.
I think the qualifier 'more' was key there...
We have to use your shit, if we don't use your shit all we're left with is the monoculture. #Lame
Yo Taylor, I'm really happy for you, I'ma Let you finish, but Sarah Palin has one of the best 'claiming Tina Fey is anti-women because Fey made fun of her' episodes of all time!
Oh, so that's where we get rapeseed oil from- we press the seeds from the rapefruit?
Which in turn lead to the next great innovation in dangerous toys.
Even if feminism has moved beyond the belief that porn is always degrading, the narrative about feminism hasn't. There are also very vocal feminists of the previous wave (which one are we on now?) that are pretty strident about the topic making the waters even muddier. There have been plenty of topics that I've read…

I find it really depends on the aptness of metaphor, and if both sides are debating in good faith; however if both occur I've always found "if the situation were reversed" hypotheticals the most powerful way to change my understanding of someone else's position.
Your opinion was a judgment. You can be judged for your taste - it's merely stating an opinion.
Yeah, I tend to liken it to the aphorism - in an avalanche every snowflake pleads not-guilty. On the other hand, the snow flakes are subject to the conditions they exist in. In the end, best we can hope for is to level things a bit so the there are fewer conditions that produce avalanches. Unfortunately that…
I certainly think it plays a driving role in those behaviors, but it probably isn't the whole story either. Each element of those behaviors can be teased apart separately, and each time they are exhibited is a unique instance. Then again, I find it easy get lost pondering the lines between overly holistic or overly…
Ritual is like music. By and large we like harmonies and rhythms. We get uncomfortable when discord is injected into a song or the rhythm becomes a jumble. There's no rational reason for it; it's just how we are. Even if someone doesn't agree with the origin of a ritual, they'll often continue it to maintain the…
I'm really glad to hear that. He's probably my favorite Jurist on the bench right now.
I suppose the analogy needs to be extended: your friend texts you that they're texting while driving, you should, at the next safe opportunity, admonish the friend not to text while driving.
What my parents told me was it was way more fun staying sober and watching other people get high. I have to admit that it worked; the one time I was offered I declined and watched the floor show.
