The one that really hurts me is Jason Dohring. Say it ain’t so, Logan Echolls!
I was fortunate enough to meet John Waters once at an alumni event (my college has his film archives). We bonded over the fact that we have both always wanted to see a movie in which every single role, including background extras, is played by a recognizable movie star.
In the late 70s my family took a road trip from Vermont to Minnesota to visit my oldest sister at college. Dad driving, Mom in the passenger seat, my two next-oldest sisters in the back seat, and 8-year-old me in the way back.
Ours did too.
There are a handful of true-crime cases that really seize my imagination, for some reason, and the MacDonald and Manson cases are among them! Always a pleasure to talk to anyone who shares the fascination, no matter to what degree :)
That happened to me when I went to see Sally Field in Places In The Heart. It was 35 years ago, so I’ve forgotten a lot of the details, but suddenly a blind man appeared out of nowhere and they were harvesting cotton that hadn’t been planted yet. So confusing!
Oops from me as well, I inadvertently misspelled MacDonald’s name in my earlier post! For me, there are just too many things about MacDonald that give me pause: his arrogance, his self-centeredness, his hostility, his seeming misogyny, and especially the fact that the females in his family were subjected to such…
I too devoured Errol Morris’s book (as well as Fatal Vision, Fatal Justice, The Journalist and the Murderer, and Scales of Justice), and while some of the things he uncovered were troubling, I still believe McDonald is guilty. Were you tipped over toward believing Greg Mitchell was the primary culprit?
I pretty much skimmed over that stuff and concentrated on the H.H. Holmes chapters!
Touché! ;-)
I met David Boreanaz once on jury duty. He was called to be a member of the jury pool the same day I was, and I noticed him sitting over to one side of the jury room. I summoned up the courage to approach him, slipped onto the bench next to him, leaned in, and quietly said “I’m a big fan of your work.” (It was clear…
Ever hear Laura Kightlinger’s routine on a similar phrase? I forget the exact wording, but she basically says that when you’re depressed, “Everything happens for a reason” sounds an awful lot like “Anything can happen with a razor.” ;-)
My best friend in high school had a massive crush on a girl who did not reciprocate his feelings but who did graciously allow him to take her to the prom. I was not a big fan of this girl, so it gave me all kinds of pleasure when he went to his 10-year high school reunion and reported ruefully that Former Crush had…
My annual Oscar-viewing feast always includes fresh strawberries dipped in Cool Whip.
Because they all have one stashed in the back of their closet.
I think you’re attributing a tone to my original comment that was not at all intended. I wasn’t gleefully pointing out “Ha ha, you’re wrong!” or preening myself on superior knowledge.
Okay... but how often do you see articles on Whoopi Goldberg that refer to her as Caryn Johnson? We should respect the name he’s chosen to go by.
Psst... it’s Willem Dafoe, not William.
Sorry! No offense to Céline intended, this just happened to be the post I’d just clicked on when I first noticed the new header. ;-)
