"Creep" works just fine, as it's not actually a gendered term.

Are you saying that "creepy" has historically been used to silence and degrade men as a whole and individually through sexism?

Since "most" women only use creep to describe legitimately creepy behavior, why would your personal definition of 'creep' be "Term used to describe a man who is attracted to a woman, but for any reason fails to meet the standard of attractiveness that woman holds", then?

I have never, ever, ever in my life called a guy I wasn't into a creep just for politely asking me out on a date which I declined. I have never encountered any of my female friends doing this either.

It's hard to judge without knowing the exact behaviors you describe, but this argument is a REALLY slippery slope. Often when I've talked about how men harassing me on the street makes me uncomfortable, guys will say "Oh, well it's just because you're not attracted to them. If a hot guy hit on you you wouldn't mind".

My Dad is convinced that the Times is actually trying to instigate a class war via the Style section. I think he's probably got something there.

I was just gonna come down here and say that. I will NEVER age out of Sublime!

Us "people who can't afford the rent in Williamsburg" actually do prefer Greenpoint, because Williamsburg is now beset by hideous condos and their um, accompanying residents (read: yuppies). I moved out of Williamsburg because I started to feel underdressed when I wore jeans and a t shirt to get a cup of coffee.

Umm. . is it just me or is this being completely misinterpreted? Looking doesn't affect you. . .it's saying if you react more strongly to the images, you're more likely to gain weight and have more sex. If you react strongly to the images that means you're in general very affected by those two things. This just means

Wait- ARCHIE COMICS ARE STILL BEING PRODUCED?

But it was his family business! That makes it even more forgivable in my book.

I feel like everything this article lists that Urban Outfitters has done is super offensive and awful. . .except for this photo.

Er, You've Got Mail? That dude works for a Barnes & Noble (ish), he doesn't kidnap her mother and burn her independent bookstore down. I'm all for corporations-are-evil-support-independent-stores stuff, but I don't think his involvement in a big bookstore opening is enough to make him a bad guy overall.

The matching science might be crap, but it still seems like Eharmony is likely to work to some extent; it's going to attract people who are looking for marriage and sweater-photos and they'll get matched up with each other whether the science is perfect or not. Whereas if you're on OKcupid or in a bar there's going to

Hm, maybe. I sort of thought there was some tension between her and Joyce that she ran from into Abe's arms. Regardless- being into men doesn't mean she's not into women. I don't think I'm the only one who caught some romantic tension there.

Hmm, see, I've gotten the impression that Peggy's never been all that enthusiastic about any of the guys she's been with. It's always felt more like "well I guess I'm supposed to have a boyfriend and/or I guess I'm supposed to bang men in positions of power". At least, she hasn't formed a genuine connection with any

SIDE QUESTION: Is Peggy into her? Yknow, like, INTO her? I thought I was getting a vibe there.

No one here has privilege? Speak for yourself. Having privilege isn't a bad thing- almost everyone has it in some form. Failing to acknowledge it is the problem.

I was honestly hoping the text of this article would just be, "Nope".

Oh, shit! I've read this article and it's awesome but didn't remember the author's name/connect it to the Lindy West on here. Now I like her even more! Thanks for posting!
