Actually, they don’t really have Ram equivalents. The Renegade is a Fiat 500x, the Cherokee is a Fiat Viagio (Dodge dart and Chrysler 200), and the Grand Cherokee is still based on a platform developed with Mercedes from back in the Daimler Chrysler era.

That would never work where I went to grad school. First of all, there was no bus system, and second, the closest grocery store was almost two miles from the school. Good luck trying to live without a car.

You do have a point, they could turn Jeep into the next Mercury.

The only one that’s not a rebranded crossover is the Wrangler. I think a rebranded Ford platform would do better than a rebranded Fiat platform. There wouldn’t be too much change to the market position of each vehicle

I think Ford wouldn’t do too bad with Jeep. They could improve Jeep’s reliability, and make Ford’s SUV portfolio a little more interesting. I really just want Jeep to become an American company again.

I would think a Chinese company would be very interested. Geely is a prime candidate. They could do pretty well in the U.S. with Jeep, Ram, and Volvo. Or maybe BYD, they have electrics, but not much to speak of in the SUV/truck range, and could use the dealership network and brand recognition.

If that happened, I would hate to be stuck on the Chrysler/Dodge side of the split and not the Jeep/Tesla side...

Really, he’s separating Ram and Jeep, so they will survive when they shut down Chrysler and Dodge.

It’s just like I have been predicting for two years now. They’re starving Chrysler and Dodge to death in preparation for a shutdown. Jeep is being spun off because it and Ram will be the survivors.

It was a wage issue. Labor costs in Australia are high, even for the developed world. They can cut 60-70% of the labor costs by building in southeast Asia.

If you like the style, then it’s a good base for an engine swap, mild custom. You won’t have to worry about reliability with an LS under the hood.
