And yet in my Firehouse we have a 2007 2500HD Pickup with only 30k miles that runs and drives like it has 530k miles on it. We beat the balls off of it. Depends on the fire department, and how busy/active they are.

They did what most fire departments do. Spend a shit ton of tax payer money for toys they never use and don’t need. Then they replace them at low miles rinse and repeat. (I sat on the board of a fire department for a couple years and saw it first hand).
If by maintained meticulously you mean washed on the front driveway every weekend, I agree. s/
It was likely a specialized unit, like a brush truck or to pull a boat.
Yeah I got a very gently used honda civic for a steal back in The Before Times, and I didn’t expect to keep it forever, just until my work and expenses stabilized a bit. Now that I’m in a good place, I’m still hanging onto the honda because it’s paid off, reliable, no bullshit bells and whistles, and any car that…
The people that win but don’t pay get permanently banned and publically shamed in the comments. It’s rare, but I’ve seen it happen a few times.
Maybe automakers should start tapping into the reliable-vehicle-sans-modern-BS market. It seems to be growing.
At Mecum there was a $21k bid today on a 1990 Chevy 1500 that didn't meet reserve. I don’t care that it has the 454, that’s freaking insane.
The article (of course) fails to mention it only has 6,000 miles.
For the love of God, drive your damn car!
wonderful thing about a manual is if you end up with a dead battery... you just get it rolling, bump start, and youre on your merry way..
Oh wait, I see the issue right there in your photos...it’s a ‘96 Pontiac Firebird.
Yep, I see it as the same thing as the CC / AP speed limit. Here in California even 1 mph over the limit is “illegal”, but few people observe that strict limit, so 5mph over is very common.
2-3 times a week I find a new stop sign that should be a yield sign. I have no idea why the whole country is so afraid of yield signs.
If often absolutely is, especially in Philly, NYC, Chicago, LA, etc.
What? Drivers in India are way better trained than FSD!
The stop signs are too darn many! A whole lot of them could be replaced with yield signs with zero consequences to road user safety. Country road intersecting another country road? Yield sign. Suburban street dumping into a main arterial road? Stop sign. But that would require the cops to give up that slam-dunk ticket…
ha ha, yes that is a good metaphor, because i remember riding in taxis and auto-rickshaws in india. except that accidents can and would often happen, often catastrophically.
Yeah, ideally the cars will communicate with each other in such a way that most traffic laws become obsolete. 200mph could be just as safe as 20mph if every car knows what every other car is doing.
In a perfect FSD world there will be no stop lights, signs, nothing, just an incredible series of TERRIFYING yet orchestrated near misses...basically like driving in India :)
