True. Just slightly different cuts and fabrics. Especially the tops.

We borrow from each other’s cultures all the time especially in terms of music, food, and clothing. In my opinion, with something like non-sacred items it’s only appropriation if you lay claim to or receive credit for somehow inventing/discovering something without acknowledging the culture/people who originated it. A

I honestly don’t remember any. It was a much more innocent time before everybody and their angry uncle had Facebook and blogs and all manner of other social media on which to spew their thoughts. That and I don’t know that anyone really took the whole ‘girl power’ as anything other than fun and a good way to sell

Don’t feel bad and don’t feel that you were doing something offensive in hindsight. You were enjoying yourself and doing something that made it easier to manage your hair. You didn’t come back and claim to have discovered this really great new thing that no one ever did before. That’s the difference - you can’t claim

Please excuse my earlier mistake in identifying the protest as being about rape. As some people here and a 5 minute google have informed me, the picture is from a protest that is about base realignment and the stationing of a particular aircraft. Not rape. Let me make this perfectly, 100% clear. This protest with it’s

Did you miss the part where I replied about what the protest was actually for? I was mistaken, yes, and I admitted it. It’s not a stock photo. The article that accompanied the photo also talked about the sexual assaults and rapes connected to the U.S. military in Japan. Happy now.

That’s what I thought at first but I did a little searching, especially since I was curious about why there seemed to be a helicopter on the poster. Apparently, the rape of the 12 year old girl did factor into the protest but the Osprey was the main issue. Still makes sense to have bilingual signs though.

True. That might have taken a little more searching though.

It’s not. Looks like it’s from a protest last year.

Just posted that. Rape/sexual assault were also issues but the Osprey was the main focus.

That likely has to do with the V-220 Osprey aircraft being stationed there. There have been a lot of civilian complaints about safety concerns - apparently they crash a lot. The pictures may actually be from a protest held in May of last year.

That was my first thought. If you want to say no, say no. But it could be taken as excusing rapey behavior/blaming victims. Or it could be referring to saying no to food, invites, or any situation where you say ‘maybe’ just to be nice.

Just a guess but probably to make the meaning of the sign clear especially for non-Japanese speakers/readers. This is a protest about rape and assaults committed by U.S. servicemen so it makes sense that the signs be bilingual.

I think of Richard Simmons as an early body positivity activist. I know he had his own issues with weight and that he often came off as kind of a joke that he was in on but he really was about encouraging everybody to get up and move. He always had people of different body types in his videos and he was very

Sadly, this is very much a thing especially in ambiguous cases. Police and adult protective services focus on whether the person is considered competent enough to make their own decisions including the decision to remain in a dangerous, abusive situation. It’s basically erring on the side of caution to avoid violating

I wonder if she said that because she talked about the outfit having particular meaning for her. It makes her feel powerful but also vulnerable. Maybe it’s like wearing a favorite shirt or panties - you wear it because of how it makes you feel even if only you know it’s there. She could very well wear parts of the

It’s only strictly male-directed if you ignore the fact that plenty of lesbians and bisexual women are into BDSM as well and enjoy seeing women in leather. By that standard, women should only do photos wearing giant muumuus since pretty much anything women wear can be considered a target of male-directed fetishism

You’re welcome. I’m not a big fan of emotional arguments, either. I won’t say that I haven’t indulged in that but I try to keep a mostly level head.

I didn’t say so initially but I like your idea of getting a rabbit coat especially since they are food animals. Considering how people like to do farm to table you could probably find a local resource to help you in your search. I’ve met a lot of leather workers who get their resources from local farms and a few also

Chris Brown annoys me for a lot of reasons but for some reason him wearing that stupid hoodie with a fur coat makes me want to punch him extra hard.
