Poor people, the disabled, the elderly, and racial/ethnic minorities tend to not be able to afford the required ID or the documents needed to get the ID. They also may experience increased difficulty with getting to the MVA including lack of transportation or the inability to take off of work to get to the MVA during

The people most likely to be affected by these laws aren’t likely to do things like booking a flight or renting a car and may not need to show a state ID card or drivers license in order to apply for a job (if they are working) or to receive medication/reimbursement. Some people use alternate IDs or, honestly, don’t

I’m always amused/sadded by people who really just do not get the problem with tying the ability to vote to the ability to obtain the required ID. Just because you have your drivers license or state ID burning a hole in your wallet doesn’t mean that everyone is able to get these items. Not everyone drives, not

The type of ID required tends to be very specific - usually a state issued ID or drivers license as opposed to a student ID, paratransit ID card, employer ID, or housing ID. Those cost money to obtain. If you tie being able to afford the ID in with being able to vote, you create a poll tax. People who are unable to

I assume you mean gender politics since this has traditionally been a sport dominated by boys. Or about less well off people being locked out of participating in elite sports like this. It’s hard to make a point about a sport being dominated by white people when it’s an Asian woman that took the gold.

How about just leave it as dominated by people with the money and resources to devote to turning a hobby into full on athletic career. Are a lot of those people white? Yes. But there are a lot of non-whites with the money, resources, and skills to add some color to snowboarding, skiing, gymnastics, etc...

It’s still black/brown face. Anytime a person of any color puts on make up/tans to mimic the actual skin tone of another race it’s problematic. And it’s not necessary since characters are usually identified by their outfits/accessories/hairstyle. A super pale white person could dress up as Storm or Kamala Khan’s Ms.

There’s nothing wrong with being a single mom. But if you don’t want to be a single mom and really want a long-lasting, committed relationship along with kids, maybe the guy who has a number of kids with different women isn’t the one to pin those hopes on.

This is very true. Too many women think they’re going to be the one that breaks that pattern and end up being one more in a line of single moms. If you’re cool with that, then fine. If you want more than that, you’re probably going to have look somewhere else.

On who’s part, though? I doubt anyone would think that there would be an issue with purple face paint as part of a costume. The problem is that in some photos it looks brown. This is like the Kayne western sorority girls who were dressed as miners - it’s not what it looks like.

I’ve met a lot of people who have converted as adults. Some of it has to do with specific circumstances like marrying someone of a different faith or going to jail but a lot of people convert because they are searching for something that they aren’t getting from their current faith. I’ve met a lot of former addicts

Attack the Block is excellent. I loved the whole feel of it and I specifically loved seeing more than one black person and not having the black person heroically sacrificing themselves for a white character (after teaching them some important lesson, of course).

I love him as Captain Cold! He’s so over the top and totally steals all of the scenes.

This describes a lot of my patients. They did everything they thought they were supposed to. They went to school or received training, got jobs, bought houses, saved money and now that they’ve retired, they’re struggling to live on their savings and their Social Security. Worse, in some ways, is that their hard work

One of my first thoughts. One of the best thing about Barbie dolls having the same body sculpt is that pretty much any 12" fashion doll clothes fit. That was just one of the horrible things about the horrible Flavas doll - the body sculpts and feet were so different that standard Barbie clothes didn’t fit them.

This too, possibly.

I remember seeing him on a documentary. He seemed like a really nice guy. He fixed computers for a living I think. Very sad that he committed suicide

She looks like a very, very committed cosplayer.

I like this idea. It would like ordering a customized American Girl doll. Otherwise,it’s too overwhelming. If I go into Target and just need to buy a doll for some kid’s birthday, I don’t want to spend a huge amount of time picking the doll and then trying to find the clothes to match the doll’s body. What happens

I’ve never really gotten that either. Barbie might be a 12" fashion doll with an unobtainable figure but she was also an astronaut/teacher/movie star/dentist supermodel that owned cars, houses, and a freaking yacht. Even as a kid I knew that no one looked like Barbie because Barbie was plastic - she was no more real
